C-Band VSAT services with HUB in Dar es Salaam

Beyond Telesec has a Satellite based C-Band VSAT network with the Earth Station located in Dar es Salaam on a 7.3m antenna to provide its customer with robust and reliable data connectivity across Africa, Middle East and Europe on its state of the art GILAT SKYEDGE II platform leveraging single hop connectivity solutions.

Beyond Telesec offers communication solutions to its customers in locations with scat or no infrastructure presence. This has been the traditional strength of Satellite Networks and can be rapidly deployed offering its customer with most reliable and robust connectivity of 99.99% uptime. Satellite networks bypasses bottlenecks, or unreliability experienced with terrestrial networks.

A Satellite in the Geo Synchronous orbit can cover around 33% of the earth’s surface and can provide connectivity to any region covered by it. A satellite can also focus on a particular high density region and multiple satellites can work together to provide global coverage. This is very useful for remote locations (rural areas, ships and coastal regions, hills, etc.) where there is limited or no terrestrial connectivity.

VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) is a satellite communications system that serves home and business users. VSAT is a two-way satellite ground station antenna with a dish antenna that is normally shorter than 3 meters. The majority of VSAT antennas range from 75cm to 3.8m. Data rates range from 4 kbps up to 16 Mbps. VSATs access satellites in geosynchronous orbit to relay data from small remote earth stations (terminals) to other terminals (in mesh topology) or master earth station “hubs” (in star topology). VSATs are used to transmit narrowband data (e.g., point-of-sale transactions using credit cards, polling or RFID data, or SCADA), or broadband data (for the provision of satellite Internet access to remote locations, VoIP or video). VSATs are also used for transportable, on-the-move (utilizing phased array antennas) or mobile maritime communications

Beyond Telesec offers the following services on its Satellite based C-Band VSAT Infrastructure:

Private Networks

Beyond Telesec offer state of the art C-Band VSAT Infrastructure on SkyEdge II™ platform system which revolutionizes the way operators and service providers do business. It is a cost effective way to deliver all the communications services that enterprises, carriers, service providers and governments require, from interactive data to broadband IP to public and corporate telephony and beyond. Best of all, SkyEdge II™ platform meets all the present and future business objectives, providing the option to deploy communications applications in all market segments.

Public and private organizations use Beyond Telesec to deliver their most demanding applications, relying on SkyEdge II’s attention to reliability, user experience and optimal usage of resources. Whether the customer need to serve a residential broadband user, support secure IP connectivity within the organization or provide backhaul to a telephony trunk from a remote site, SkyEdge II is the perfect solution for fully secured “organizational level” connectivity solutions and bandwidths to its customers

QoS (Quality of Service) & MPN Service (Managed Private Networks)

SkyEdge II platform advanced QoS is designed to ensure the best quality for voice, video and data applications.By managing bandwidth per VSAT, user and application, SkyEdge II supports flexible SLAs (Service Level Agreements), applications throttling and prioritization that support mission critical applications.

Managed Private Networks (MPN) are virtual partitions of satellite resources for separate customers or networks. The multi-tiered MPN gives an added layer of QoS to support SLAs. Customers can directly manage their MPNs using a remote NMS client without impact on other customers.

Embedded TCP & HTTP Acceleration

Web page and object pre-fetching, data compression and HTTP optimization combine to enhance transmission speed, saving bandwidth and increasing response time. Embedding acceleration within the VSATs also considerably reduces maintenance headaches and performance limitations incurred when those capabilities are on either a client computer or separate hardware.

Embedded VPN

Our VPN processor maintains full IPSec based security. By providing the VPN onboard the VSAT with TCP acceleration, rather than externally, TCP performance is improved while integration and maintenance issues are minimized. The integration also means the VPN is easily managed from the NMS.

Designed for Reliability

Our equipment are designed, built and tested not only for an air-conditioned office but also for extreme conditions. With an MTBF of over 100,000 hours, SkyEdge II VSATs are designed to keep working. The SkyEdge Armadillo is a VSAT specifically designed for all-out-door installation, with a hardened all-weather case reliable in the harsh environments.

Low Power Modes

SkyEdge’s low power modes provide power consumption of less than 20W for bi-directional traffic, helping operators minimize solar or other alternative energy sources often required to power VSATs in remote regions.

Remote Software Installation & Upgrade

A new SkyEdge VSAT need only be locally configured with simple outbound parameters and then all operational software is automatically downloaded from the hub. Hub operators can also set parameters for automatic VSAT software updates. The latest versions of VSAT software can then be propagated to all VSATs without operator intervention.

Mobile Backhaul

Widespread popular demand for 2.5G/2.75G (GSM), 3G/3.5G (UMTS/HSPA) and 4G (LTE) is increasingly motivating mobile network operators (MNOs) to extend wireless services to isolated and remote communities. Those areas are simply beyond the reach of terrestrial infrastructure, so Mobile backhaul via satellite is an obvious solution. However, MNOs are concerned about the economic viability of satellite connections.

Beyond Telesec provides different solutions for different types of cell sites, always tailoring the best product and technology for the job, hence drastically reducing operational costs incurred by MNOs, making cellular over satellite a profitable solution. The offered solution enables MNOs to quickly expand their services to remote areas while minimizing costs of leasing satellite bandwidth. The solution is easy to install, flexible, and is supported by a central control and a real-time management system.

Beyond Telesec offers MNO’s with a superior solution which transparently connects cells to the network in an efficient manner, while maintaining high quality voice and data services.
